Important Safety Tips

  1. Replace fuses with circuit breakers.
  2. Prevent overloaded circuits - make sure you operate one heavy appliance at a time on same circuit.
  3. Prevent overloaded wiring - make sure wire is sized sufficiently to operate the appliance in use.
  4. Install tamperproof receptacles. Soon to be required.
  5. Check extension cords for damage and do not overload.
  6. Install GFCI protection (ground fault) around home, ie: swimming pools, bathrooms, kitchen, basement, garage and exterior.
  7. Install AFCI protection (arc fault) around home. Relatively new product required in bedrooms. Soon to be required throughout home.
  8. Do not use wall adapters to plug in heavy appliances.
  9. Repair loose switches and receptacles.
